The idea of "Eccentric Preludes" is the same of the "bagatelle" in Beethoven times, but the freedom in composition nowadays can make the real eccentric music. The title is also a small reference to Vladimir Horowitz who composed an "Eccentric Dance" in his youth but became famous as pianist only. The third set of Eccentric preludes (Op.20) was composed with a new generation of pianos in mind. These pieces use the full range of 108 keys which were idealized by Stuart & Sons.
These are the first pieces composed for this range (108 keys) in the world |
